How Airbag Deployment Can Help After a Two-Vehicle Highway Collision
Airbags are designed to reduce the risk of serious injury in sudden vehicle collisions. They work together with seat belts to help protect the head, chest, and upper body when a vehicle stops abruptly. In many two-vehicle roadway cases, airbags deploy within fractions of a second after sensors detect a strong force.
Even when airbags deploy properly, people inside a vehicle may still experience pain, bruising, or other injuries. Some injuries are not immediately noticeable and may appear hours later. Vehicle damage, skid marks, weather conditions, and traffic flow are often reviewed to help piece together how traffic movement changed before contact occurred. Photos from the roadway and statements from drivers can also provide additional detail about what happened before vehicles came to a stop.
