Why Intersection Collisions Can Cause Significant Traffic Disruption
Crashes at busy intersections often lead to extended traffic delays because they can block multiple lanes and restrict turning movements. When vehicles remain in the roadway after an impact, traffic must be diverted or significantly slowed until the area is cleared.
Intersections require drivers to manage signals, cross traffic, and lane changes over a short distance. Even a brief lapse in attention or misjudgment of speed can result in a collision.
After such crashes, investigators commonly review traffic signal timing, vehicle positions, and roadway markings to determine how the sequence of events developed. These factors help clarify how intersection conflicts occurred and what conditions may have contributed to the impact.
