Blue Earth County, MN (August 18, 2026) – Two people were injured on Sunday afternoon after a Kia Sorento left MN Hwy 30 and rolled in Pleasant Mound Township. The Minnesota State Patrol reported the crash at about 3:54 p.m. near Mile Marker 125.

The Kia was traveling east on MN Hwy 30 when it entered the south ditch and rolled. The 47-year-old driver, Ronald Dennis Volk, had non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to MCHS Mankato.

The 48-year-old passenger, Kristie Lynn Harroun, also had non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital.

The roadway was dry, and no airbags were deployed. Alcohol was listed as pending for the driver, while no alcohol was suspected for the passenger. The circumstances surrounding the accident remain under review.

We hope both injured people recover smoothly.

What Can Affect Injuries in a Rollover Crash?

Rollover crashes can cause serious injuries because occupants may experience several sudden changes in movement. The severity of harm can depend on vehicle speed, how the vehicle leaves the roadway, and how many times it rolls.

Seat belts can help keep occupants inside the passenger compartment during a rollover. Without proper restraint, occupants face a greater risk of being thrown against parts of the vehicle or outside it.

Airbags can provide additional protection, although not every vehicle or crash results in airbag deployment. Vehicle design, roof strength, and the condition of the passenger compartment can also affect the outcome.

Road conditions may affect how a vehicle behaves after it leaves the travel lane. Dry pavement does not eliminate rollover risks when a vehicle enters a ditch or loses control.
