How Hit-and-Run Crashes Are Investigated
Hit-and-run crashes can be challenging because key information may depend on witness accounts, surveillance footage, or vehicle descriptions. Investigators often review details such as the direction a vehicle traveled, damage patterns, and witness statements.
Information from nearby businesses, homes, or traffic cameras can sometimes help identify a vehicle involved in a crash. Vehicle color, make, model, and other visible details may also provide useful clues.
When a driver leaves before sharing information, gathering accurate details becomes more difficult. Early reports may be limited while available evidence is reviewed and confirmed.
