Lakeland, FL (August 4, 2026) – Two young men were seriously hurt on Monday, August 3, after a Lexus struck a disabled tractor-trailer on westbound I-4 near Exit 38 (SR 33) before being hit by another semi. The crash happened around 3:50 p.m. west of State Road 33 and closed the westbound lanes for several hours during the afternoon commute.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the Lexus entered the outside shoulder and struck a disabled tractor-trailer that was parked there. After the initial collision, the car rotated back into the westbound travel lanes, where it was hit by another tractor-trailer traveling in the center lane.
The Lexus driver, a 20-year-old man from Winter Haven, and his passenger, a 19-year-old man from Orlando, were taken to an area hospital with serious injuries. The drivers of both tractor-trailers were not hurt.
The circumstances surrounding the multi-vehicle crash continue to be examined as the investigation moves forward. We are thinking of the two young men and wishing them strength during their recovery.
