Traffic in the surrounding area was diverted through a nearby parking lot while crews worked to clear the damaged vehicles from the roadway. Officials later confirmed that all lanes along NE HK Dodgen Loop had reopened.

Why Traffic Diversions Are Common After Major Roadway Crashes
Traffic diversions are often used after serious roadway emergencies to keep drivers away from blocked lanes and cleanup operations. When damaged vehicles remain on the road, nearby parking lots or side streets may temporarily handle redirected traffic until crews finish clearing debris and inspecting the pavement.
Busy commercial corridors can become heavily congested after a two-vehicle crash, especially during afternoon travel periods. Drivers entering and exiting shopping centers may also create additional delays while traffic patterns shift around the blocked roadway.
Medical evaluations and vehicle removal efforts can extend closure times depending on the severity of the damage. In many situations, investigators also review skid marks, vehicle positions, and witness statements to better understand how the vehicles came together.
