Why Can Rollover Crashes Cause Serious Injuries?
Rollover crashes can create several points of impact as a vehicle moves onto its side or roof. Occupants may face injuries from the initial collision as well as from the vehicle’s movement during the rollover.
Being trapped inside a damaged vehicle can also delay access to medical care. Specialized rescue equipment may be needed to safely reach an occupant when doors or other parts of the vehicle are damaged.
Seat belts can help keep occupants inside the vehicle’s protective area during a rollover. Proper restraint use is especially important because unrestrained occupants can face greater risks during sudden vehicle movement.
