Why Rollover Crashes on Rural Roads Often Lead to Severe Injuries
Rollover crashes can be especially dangerous, particularly on rural roads bordered by ditches or steep embankments. When a vehicle leaves the roadway and travels down a slope, it may flip or overturn due to uneven terrain. Occupants can become trapped inside, requiring extrication by emergency crews.
Two-lane rural roads like Centerhill Church Rd may not have wide shoulders or guardrails to prevent vehicles from leaving the pavement. Sharp turns, sudden braking, or attempts to avoid another vehicle can increase the risk of a rollover.
Air transport is often used when injuries are critical and rapid access to advanced trauma care is needed. Wearing seatbelts and reducing speed on rural roads can help lower the risk of serious injury in rollover crashes.
