Ware, MA (January 18, 2026) – A tragic accident claimed the life of a 73-year-old West Brookfield woman on Friday in a parking lot outside the Walmart on Palmer Rd in Ware.
According to Melissa Sippel, a spokesperson for the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office, the woman had exited a vehicle she was traveling in with her 79-year-old husband when the vehicle unexpectedly shifted into reverse and struck her. Emergency crews responded to the scene, but despite their efforts, the woman was pronounced dead at the location.
Medics and law enforcement worked quickly to secure the scene and assess the situation. No other injuries were reported in connection with the incident. Authorities confirmed that the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the official cause of death.
At this time, investigators do not suspect foul play. The Ware Police Department and Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the District Attorney’s Office are continuing to investigate the incident and gather more details.
