Why Crosswalk Crashes Can Be Fatal
Pedestrians in crosswalks are at risk when vehicles fail to stop or misjudge distances. Even at lower speeds, the impact can cause severe injuries or death, especially for older adults.
Investigators often review traffic signals, visibility, and vehicle speed to understand how the crash occurred. The presence of multiple passengers in a vehicle, including children, can complicate emergency response and scene assessment.
Roadway layout, sightlines, and driver attention are also considered to determine why a pedestrian was struck in a marked crosswalk. These details help authorities understand how to prevent similar accidents.
