What Is Typically Reviewed in Chain-Reaction Highway Crashes?
Chain-reaction crashes often involve multiple impacts occurring in quick succession. Investigators typically review how the initial collision happened and how it led to subsequent crashes involving other vehicles.
Vehicle spacing and speed are important factors in these situations. When traffic is moving at highway speeds, a sudden impact can quickly affect nearby vehicles.
Road conditions and driver response times are also considered. These details help explain how the crash unfolded and why multiple vehicles became involved in the sequence.
