Wichita, KS (July 17, 2026) – A 66-year-old man was seriously hurt after being struck by a vehicle near the 8900 block of West Kellogg in Wichita on Wednesday morning, July 15. Emergency crews were called to the area after reports indicated the crash may have occurred approximately 30 minutes before anyone notified authorities.

The man was found inside a room at the location, where staff believed he had been struck by a vehicle. He was conscious but suffering from significant injuries when emergency units assessed him. He was taken to Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Surveillance footage of the crash is believed to exist and may help investigators determine exactly what happened. Details about where the collision occurred relative to the building, what led up to the wreck, and whether the driver remained at the scene had not been released as of this report. The accident remains under active investigation.

We hope the injured man makes a full recovery.

What Happens When a Pedestrian Crash Goes Unreported for a Period of Time?

A delay between a crash and the call to emergency services can significantly affect both the medical outcome for the injured person and the quality of evidence available to investigators. In the time before help is called, a patient may lose blood, experience worsening neurological symptoms, or go into shock without receiving any care. Early intervention is one of the most important factors in determining how well a person recovers from serious trauma.

A Glasgow Coma Scale score is a standardized medical assessment used to evaluate a patient’s level of consciousness following a head injury or other trauma. A score of 14 out of 15 indicates the patient is largely alert and responsive but has experienced some degree of impairment. Medical teams use this score alongside other findings to guide decisions about imaging, monitoring, and the level of care needed at the receiving facility.

Surveillance footage becomes especially valuable in crashes where the sequence of events is unclear or where the driver may have left before anyone arrived. Cameras at nearby businesses, parking areas, and roadways can capture vehicle movement, the point of impact, and the driver’s actions after the collision. Investigators typically move quickly to secure this footage, since recording systems overwrite older content within a short period.
