Frequently Asked Questions
What factors make a crash more likely to be fatal?
Speed, the angle of impact and whether riders or occupants have any protective barrier between them and the other vehicle all play a role. Crashes involving a turning vehicle crossing a motorcyclist's path, as described here, usually leave little time to react.
How does speed affect survivability in a crash like this?
Higher speeds mean more force at impact and less time for either driver to avoid a collision. Even modest speed reductions can change the outcome for a motorcyclist with no surrounding structure to absorb a hit.
What should families do after a fatal crash?
Families can request the official crash report from the investigating agency, which in this case is the Monroe Township Police Department, and can reach out to the listed investigating officer with questions about the ongoing investigation.
Why does seat belt use matter in vehicle crashes?
For occupants of cars and SUVs, a seat belt keeps a person in position and reduces the chance of being thrown from the vehicle or against hard interior surfaces during a collision.
