Wilmington, DE (January 25, 2026) – A woman was injured in a serious collision early Saturday morning on Interstate 95 in North Wilmington after the vehicle she was riding in reportedly struck a concrete barrier and guardrail at highway speeds. The crash occurred during the early morning hours of January 24 and involved a high-mechanism impact.
Paramedics transported a 48-year-old female from the scene to Christiana Hospital for evaluation. According to reports from EMS, the woman was an unrestrained backseat passenger at the time of the crash. She self-extricated from the vehicle following the collision and was alert and oriented when first responders arrived.
Medical personnel noted visible swelling to the woman’s left eye and forehead, along with complaints of right shoulder and finger pain. Despite the significant nature of the impact, no obvious deformities or signs of serious internal trauma were observed. Bilateral lung sounds were confirmed, and the patient remained stable during transport.
Responders stated the crash involved intrusion into the cabin area, increasing concern for internal injuries due to the high-speed nature of the collision. A trauma evaluation was planned upon arrival at the hospital to further assess the extent of her injuries.
Authorities have not yet released details about the other occupants or vehicles involved, and the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
We extend our thoughts to the injured woman and hope for her full and swift recovery.
