Frequently Asked Questions
What factors make a crash more likely to be fatal?
High speed, loss of vehicle control, and being thrown from the vehicle all raise the chance a crash ends in death. Rollovers in particular carry a higher risk when occupants are not restrained.
How does speed affect crash survivability?
Higher speed means more force at impact and less time for a driver to react or recover from a swerve. It also increases the distance and intensity of a rollover once a vehicle leaves the roadway.
Why does seat belt use matter so much?
A seat belt or harness keeps an occupant inside the vehicle during a rollover, which lowers the risk of being ejected. Ejection is one of the biggest factors in whether a rollover crash is survivable.
What should families do after a fatal crash?
Families can request a copy of the official crash report from the investigating agency once it's finalized. It's also reasonable to ask the agency for a timeline on when the investigation will close.
What to Do After a UTV Crash in Wilson, Oklahoma
If you're involved in or witness a UTV crash, call 911 right away and stay with anyone who's hurt until help arrives. Even if injuries seem minor, get checked by a medical professional, since some injuries from a rollover don't show symptoms immediately. Keep clear of the roadway if the UTV came to rest near traffic, and avoid moving the vehicle unless it's necessary for safety. Once first responders arrive, cooperate with the responding agency and get contact information for the officer handling the report so you can follow up later.
