Winnetka, CA (April 12, 2026) – A pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run crash Friday night at the intersection of Sherman Way and Winnetka Avenue.
The incident happened around 10 p.m. on April 10, when emergency units were dispatched to reports of a vehicle striking a person. Upon arrival, responders found an adult man lying in the roadway with critical injuries.
Preliminary findings indicate that a black Chevrolet Camaro traveling south on Winnetka Avenue struck the man as he crossed outside a marked crosswalk. While the victim was down, a second vehicle, described as a white Ford truck, also hit him. Both drivers left the scene without stopping.
The injured pedestrian was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. His identity has not yet been released.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available.
We extend our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased.
What Can Happen in Multi-Vehicle Pedestrian Hit-and-Run Incidents
Pedestrian crashes involving more than one vehicle can be especially severe. When a person is struck and remains in the roadway, the risk of being hit again increases, particularly at night or in areas with steady traffic.
Visibility often plays a role in these incidents. Drivers may not see someone in the road in time to react, especially if the lighting is limited or the person is outside a crosswalk. Speed and traffic flow can also affect how quickly a driver can stop.
In hit-and-run situations, drivers leave before identifying themselves or checking on the injured person. This can delay medical care and make it harder to determine exactly how the crash unfolded. Physical evidence left behind at the scene may help piece together what happened.
