Why Are Pedestrian Crashes at Night Often So Severe?
Pedestrian crashes that occur late at night can be especially dangerous due to limited visibility. Drivers may have difficulty seeing someone in the roadway, particularly on streets with minimal lighting.
Vehicle speed can also increase injury risk. At higher speeds, the force of impact is greater, which may lead to life-threatening harm.
Investigators often examine roadway lighting, traffic patterns, and the location of the pedestrian at the time of the crash. Physical evidence left at the scene can help determine how the collision occurred and whether the vehicle slowed before impact.
