How Crashes Involving Large Trucks Differ From Regular Vehicle Accidents
Collisions with tractor-trailers are often more severe due to the size and weight of the trucks. Even at moderate speeds, the force of impact can cause serious injuries or fatalities to occupants of smaller vehicles.
Vehicle protection, such as seatbelts and airbags, is critical, but the physics of large-truck crashes can make survival challenging. Drivers are often advised to maintain extra distance from trucks and be cautious when merging or passing.
Emergency response may also take longer because of vehicle size and potential hazards like cargo spills. Scene management typically requires lane closures to ensure safety for responders and other motorists.
