Why Head-On Crashes Result in Severe Injuries
Head-on crashes are among the most dangerous types of roadway collisions because the force of two vehicles traveling toward each other can create a powerful impact. These crashes may result in serious injuries or fatalities, even when vehicles have safety features designed to protect occupants.
Crossing the center line can place vehicles directly in the path of oncoming traffic. Investigators may review roadway conditions, vehicle movement, driver actions, and other evidence to determine how a crash occurred.
When a passenger vehicle collides with a large commercial truck, the difference in vehicle size and weight can also affect the severity of the impact. Crash reviews usually focus on understanding the events before, during, and after the collision.
