How Traffic Investigators Review Fatal Two-Vehicle Highway Wrecks
After a deadly highway wreck, investigators often begin by reviewing where each vehicle was traveling before contact occurred. Road markings, vehicle positions, and debris patterns may help explain how the sequence unfolded. In some cases, traffic flow and visibility near bridges or causeways are also reviewed.
Vehicle damage can provide more detail about speed and direction at the time of contact. Investigators may also look at weather conditions, roadway design, and whether either driver attempted to avoid the other vehicle. Witness statements and nearby camera footage can sometimes help build a clearer timeline. Medical findings are often included later to document the extent of harm connected to the collision. Early reports may remain limited until all available evidence has been carefully reviewed.
