Atlanta, GA (June 29, 2026) – A 50-year-old woman lost her life after being struck by a vehicle early on Sunday near the intersection of Auburn Ave NE and Courtland Ave NE in downtown Atlanta. The fatal collision occurred around 3 a.m.
According to the Atlanta police, the woman was crossing Courtland Avenue near a crosswalk when she was struck by a southbound Jeep Wrangler. She was pronounced dead at the roadside. The driver remained at the scene and was later identified as 28-year-old Marie Bahindwa. Authorities said Bahindwa has been charged with homicide by vehicle, driving under the influence, reckless driving, and an open container violation. The investigation into the fatal collision remains ongoing as authorities continue gathering evidence.
