How Boat Propeller Accidents Can Cause Serious Injuries
Boat propeller accidents can result in severe injuries because of the speed and force of the rotating blades. These incidents may occur when someone enters the water near an operating boat or falls overboard while the engine is running. Propeller strikes can lead to deep cuts, broken bones, or other life-threatening injuries that require immediate medical attention.
Boaters can help reduce the risk by ensuring everyone is clear of the water before starting the engine, using engine cutoff switches when appropriate, and maintaining clear communication with passengers. Wearing properly fitted life jackets and following safe boarding and docking practices may also help prevent serious incidents. Safe boating habits and regular equipment checks can lower the likelihood of accidents on lakes and other waterways.
