How Head-On Collisions Can Lead to Severe Injuries
Head-on crashes are among the most dangerous types of roadway accidents because the force of two vehicles traveling in opposite directions combines at the moment of impact. Even at moderate speeds, the energy released during these collisions can cause extensive vehicle damage and serious harm to occupants.
Passengers are often at higher risk of injury due to the direct impact and the limited distance between them and the front of the vehicle. Safety features such as seat belts and airbags help reduce injury severity, but they cannot eliminate the danger posed by direct frontal impacts.
Emergency responders may also face additional hazards when vehicles catch fire after a crash. Fire suppression, medical care, and traffic control must often occur at the same time while crews work to secure the scene.
