Granger Township, OH (June 30, 2026) – One person died, and two others were hurt in a two-vehicle wreck on State Route 94 near Ridge Road in Granger Township on Sunday, June 28. The collision happened at approximately 11 a.m. in the 4900 block of State Route 94.

A 2014 Jeep Patriot driven by an 18-year-old Doylestown man was exiting a private business drive onto State Route 94 northbound when a 2009 Yamaha VMAX motorcycle crossed left of center and struck the Jeep. The motorcycle was operated by a 56-year-old man from Akron.

The motorcyclist was taken to Akron General Hospital, where he later died from his injuries. The 18-year-old driver and a teen passenger in the Jeep were taken to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. Whether drugs or alcohol played a part in the accident has not yet been determined.

We extend our deepest condolences to the family of the motorcyclist who lost his life.

What Happens When a Motorcycle Crosses Left of Center?

A motorcycle crossing into oncoming traffic, even briefly, gives other drivers very little time to react. At the speeds typical of rural state routes, the distance between vehicles closes in seconds, leaving minimal room to brake or maneuver out of the way. This type of crossing is one of the more dangerous movements a motorcycle can make, particularly near intersections or business entrances where vehicles may already be slowing or turning.

Investigators reviewing a left-of-center crash typically look at whether the rider may have lost control, encountered a road hazard, or made an unintended lane change. Toxicology results and any available physical evidence from the roadway help determine whether impairment, speed, or road conditions contributed to the crossing. These findings take time to gather and are not available in the early stages of an investigation.

Crashes at business entrances and private drives present a specific challenge because vehicles pulling onto a roadway may not expect fast-moving traffic crossing into their lane. The angle of visibility from a driveway exit can limit how much of the road a driver can see, which is why right-of-way rules and approach speed both factor into how investigators reconstruct these collisions.
