Union City, NJ (July 16, 2026) – One person lost their life on July 15 after an electric scooter and a garbage truck were involved in a roadway crash on Bergen Turnpike in Hudson County.
The incident happened at about 3:30 a.m., when emergency units were notified of the roadway emergency along Bergen Trnpk. When crews arrived, they found 22-year-old Mauricio Rodriguez of Union City with severe injuries. He was pronounced dead a short time later.
The scooter rider and the garbage truck were involved in the fatal collision, according to investigators. No additional information about the truck driver or the circumstances leading up to the crash had been released at the time of publication. Investigators continue working to determine what led to the fatal collision, and additional findings may be released as the review progresses.
