Oakland, CA (August 4, 2026) – One person was hurt in a hit-and-run on northbound I-880 just south of Broadway in Oakland on August 2.

According to CHP dispatch reports, the collision was reported shortly before 2 p.m. Initial information indicated a white Hyundai sedan was struck, while later updates stated the driver told dispatchers that two other vehicles had hit the car before leaving the roadway. A silver Tesla Model Y and another white sedan were also mentioned in the early reports.

Emergency units were called to the freeway after at least two lanes became blocked by disabled vehicles. One driver remained inside a vehicle while awaiting medical evaluation, and dispatch notes indicated X-rays were needed. A tow truck was requested to remove damaged vehicles from the highway, and traffic was slowed as crews worked to clear the lanes.

The identities of those involved have not yet been released.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, and additional information may be released as it becomes available.

We hope the person hurt in this collision makes a full and speedy recovery.

Why Hit-and-Run Investigations Can Take Time

Hit-and-run crashes usually require investigators to gather evidence beyond what is available on the roadway. Witness statements, traffic camera recordings, nearby business surveillance footage, and vehicle debris can all help identify drivers who leave before speaking with law enforcement.

Damage patterns on the vehicles involved may also provide clues about how the collision occurred. In some cases, investigators compare paint transfers, broken vehicle parts, and other physical evidence with suspect vehicles located later. As more information is collected, investigators may update the timeline of the crash and determine how each vehicle was involved. Early reports frequently contain only preliminary details, with additional facts becoming available after evidence has been reviewed.
