Gaston County, NC (July 7, 2026) – A paramedic lost her life on Monday morning, July 6, after an ambulance carrying a patient overturned on U.S. 74 near I-85 in Gaston County following a high-speed rear-end collision.
The wreck happened at about 8 a.m. while the ambulance was traveling east on U.S. 74. Investigators said a Dodge Challenger traveling at a high rate of speed struck the rear of the ambulance, causing it to roll over. Ashley Moore, 37, of Lawndale, was providing care to a patient in the back when she was ejected from the vehicle and fatally hurt.
The ambulance driver and the patient escaped with injuries that were not considered serious. The driver of the Dodge Challenger, who was alone in the vehicle, was taken to a hospital with minor injuries. Moore had served with Cleveland County Emergency Medical Services for nine years as a paramedic and field training officer.
No charges have been announced as investigators continue reviewing the circumstances surrounding the collision.
