According to police reports, the child was leaving a Circle K on his bicycle shortly before 12:30 p.m. when he attempted to cross SR-52. As he entered the roadway, he moved into the path of a Kia Niro driven by a 45-year-old Hudson woman.

The child was airlifted to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. No update on his health status had been released as of Friday afternoon. The drivers involved were not reported to have been hurt. Investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the crash as additional information becomes available.
We send our best wishes to the young boy and his family during his recovery.
Why Bicycle Crossings at Busy Roadways Can Be Especially Dangerous
Bicycle riders face increased risks when crossing busy highways and major roads with high traffic volumes. Drivers often have limited time to react when a cyclist enters a travel lane, particularly near intersections, commercial entrances, or areas with multiple turning movements.
Children may be especially vulnerable because they can have difficulty judging vehicle speeds and distances. Safety experts often recommend using designated crosswalks, pedestrian signals, and marked crossing points whenever available. Wearing a properly fitted helmet and remaining visible to motorists can also help reduce the risk of severe injury.
Roadway design, traffic density, sightlines, and driver awareness all influence bicycle safety. Following traffic rules and exercising caution at road crossings can help create safer conditions for both cyclists and motorists.
