Independence, MO (July 15, 2026) – A 5-year-old boy was critically injured after being struck by a vehicle at Truman Road and River Boulevard in Independence on Monday evening. The crash was reported around 5:40 p.m. on July 13.
According to reports, the boy was walking east on the sidewalk with a group of children when he suddenly entered the roadway and was struck by a 2022 Subaru Ascent traveling west on Truman Road. The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.
Video evidence indicated the driver did not have an opportunity to avoid the collision. The child was taken to a hospital, where he remains in a life-threatening condition. We are keeping the child in our thoughts.
