Charleston, SC (January 7, 2026) – A bicyclist was killed Tuesday evening in a tragic hit-and-run collision on the Ashley River Bridge, according to the Charleston Police Department. The incident occurred around 7 p.m. as the cyclist was riding into downtown Charleston when they were struck by a vehicle that failed to stop.
Officers responded quickly to the scene and located the cyclist, who was pronounced dead from injuries sustained in the crash. The vehicle involved fled the area before law enforcement arrived, and no identifying details about the driver or vehicle have been released at this time.
The Ashley River Bridge was shut down for approximately three hours while investigators examined the scene. The bridge reopened around 10 p.m. as officers continued efforts to locate the individual responsible for the fatal collision.
