How Wrong-Way Driving Can Lead to Multi-Vehicle Crashes
Wrong-way driving incidents can create dangerous situations, especially on highways where vehicles travel at high speeds. When a vehicle enters traffic in the opposite direction, other drivers may have little time to react.
Head-on collisions are common in these situations and can lead to chain-reaction crashes as nearby drivers attempt to avoid the impact. These secondary collisions can involve several vehicles within a short distance.
Roadway design, signage, and driver awareness all affect how quickly a wrong-way driver is identified. Investigators often review traffic patterns and vehicle paths to understand how the event developed.
