Newark, NJ (January 15, 2026) – A two-car crash near the Stanley S. Bergen Jr. Building on Bergen Street in Newark left two adults injured early Monday morning, triggering a precautionary hazmat response and a swift medical evacuation.
The incident was reported around 7:25 a.m. in the vicinity of 65 Bergen Street, not far from major healthcare and university facilities. Emergency crews arrived and quickly established command at the scene. Both injured individuals were assessed and transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Their current conditions have not been released.
Though there was no entrapment, responders initiated a minor Level 1 hazmat alert due to fluid spills or other concerns typical in multi-vehicle collisions. The scene was safely secured shortly afterward, and the alert was lifted following evaluation by fire personnel.
Traffic was temporarily disrupted as emergency teams cleared the crash site and ensured the surrounding area was safe. The cause of the collision remains under investigation, and no citations or charges have been announced.
Our thoughts are with the individuals hurt in this incident, and we wish them a full and swift recovery.
