Las Vegas, NV (January 20, 2026) – An on-duty Nevada Highway Patrol trooper sustained injuries Monday morning after being struck by a vehicle on Interstate 15 while assisting a stranded driver. The incident occurred at approximately 8:44 a.m. on the northbound side of I-15 just north of Sahara Ave, according to an NHP spokesperson.
The trooper was seated inside their patrol vehicle at the time of the crash when another car rear-ended the unit. Emergency responders, including Las Vegas Fire and Rescue and EMS crews, arrived promptly to provide medical aid. The injured trooper was transported by ambulance to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the vehicle that struck the patrol car remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Authorities stated the driver did not exhibit any signs of impairment and did not require medical transport.
The collision caused temporary delays on the freeway while officials cleared the scene and continued their investigation. Nevada State Police are reviewing the incident to determine what led to the crash and to assess compliance with the state’s “Move Over” law, which requires drivers to slow down and move over for emergency vehicles on the roadside.
Our thoughts are with the injured trooper, and we wish them a full and swift recovery.
