Taney Co, MO (January 22, 2026) – A tragic accident involving icy road conditions claimed the life of a pedestrian early on Wednesday morning in Taney County.
The incident took place around 6:58 a.m. on RT EE, approximately half a mile west of Rockaway Beach. According to reports, a 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 became disabled in the westbound lane due to black ice. The driver, a 58-year-old man from Merriam Woods, exited the truck and was standing outside the vehicle as a pedestrian.
While conditions remained hazardous, a westbound 2006 Ford Expedition driven by a 54-year-old woman from Rockaway Beach lost control on the icy roadway. The SUV slid across the center line and struck both the pedestrian and the disabled pickup truck before leaving the roadway. The pedestrian suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Taney County Coroner.
Emergency responders from Taney County arrived quickly to manage the scene and assist those involved. The driver of the Ford Expedition sustained moderate vehicle damage and remained at the scene as authorities conducted their investigation. Both vehicles were later removed by local towing services.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop D confirmed that this marks the third fatal traffic accident for the troop in 2026. The incident remains under investigation as officials continue to review the circumstances surrounding the crash.
