How Vehicle Rollovers Happen on Highways Like Interstate 80
Rollover crashes often occur when a driver loses control and the vehicle strikes a fixed object, such as a concrete barrier. On highways like I-80, higher speeds can increase the risk of overturning after impact.
Factors such as wet pavement, sudden steering movements, and overcorrection can also contribute to a rollover. When a vehicle hits a barrier at an angle, the force of the collision may cause it to tip and flip.
Back seat passengers can face unique risks during a rollover, especially if seat belts are not properly worn. Even when injuries are described as minor, occupants are often taken to a hospital to check for hidden trauma.
Interstates that run through Morris County carry steady traffic throughout the day and night. Drivers are encouraged to maintain safe speeds, stay alert, and adjust to road conditions to help reduce the risk of serious crashes.
