Why Rollover Crashes on Freeways Often Result in Serious Injuries
Rollover crashes can cause severe injuries, especially at freeway speeds. When a vehicle flips, occupants may be thrown against the interior or ejected if not properly restrained. Even a single rollover can result in multiple points of impact.
Freeways like the H-2 are designed for higher-speed travel. Sudden steering corrections, loss of control, or striking an object such as a tree can increase the risk of a vehicle overturning. Young drivers may have less experience handling emergencies at high speeds.
Seatbelt use significantly reduces the risk of serious injury in rollover crashes. Traffic safety officials encourage drivers and passengers to buckle up on every trip, regardless of distance, to help lower the risk of life-threatening harm.
