Grafton, MA (February 26, 2026) – A motorist suffered serious injuries after a secondary crash at Providence Rd and Depot St in Grafton. The incident happened shortly before 4 p.m. on Wednesday, February 25.
Emergency units first responded to reports of a two-vehicle collision with possible ejection. When crews arrived, they found a man lying in the roadway. Investigators later determined the injuries occurred after a second crash at the scene.
Police said the man had been involved in a minor collision and was outside his vehicle exchanging insurance information with the other driver. A third vehicle then struck one of the stopped vehicles, causing it to hit and drag its owner. The injured man was rushed to a hospital with serious injuries.
Traffic in the area was detoured as crews worked at the scene. Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crashes, and more details will be released as they become available. We are thinking of the injured victim as he receives medical care.
Why Secondary Crashes Can Be Especially Dangerous
Secondary crashes often happen when drivers approach an existing accident scene. Vehicles stopped on or near the roadway can create sudden hazards, especially if approaching drivers do not slow down in time. This can lead to additional collisions that cause serious injuries.
People who exit their vehicles after a minor crash may be exposed to passing traffic. Even a low-speed impact can push a stopped vehicle forward with force. Anyone standing nearby may be at risk of being struck.
Turning on hazard lights and moving vehicles out of travel lanes, if possible, can help reduce danger. Drivers approaching a crash scene should slow down and stay alert to avoid causing another collision.
