Texas County, OK (March 2, 2026) – Two people were injured late Saturday night, March 1, in a crash along US Hwy 54 near the Golden Mesa Casino in Texas County.
According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, 52-year-old Florinda Sanchez was driving eastbound on US Hwy 54 when 62-year-old Maria Barbosa pulled out from the casino and turned eastbound onto the highway. Sanchez’s vehicle struck the rear of Barbosa’s car.
The impact pushed both vehicles into a culvert on the south side of the highway, causing Barbosa’s car to roll. Emergency units responded to the scene and took both women to a hospital with potentially serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available.
Our thoughts are with those injured as they receive medical care.
How Rear-End Crashes on Highways Can Lead to Vehicle Rollovers
Rear-end crashes on highways can sometimes lead to more severe outcomes, especially when vehicles are traveling at higher speeds. Even a single impact can force a car off the roadway, increasing the risk of striking a ditch, embankment, or culvert.
When a vehicle leaves the pavement, uneven ground can cause it to tip or roll. Rollovers may happen quickly and often result in more serious damage than standard fender-benders. Factors such as road design, visibility at night, and how vehicles enter or exit nearby businesses can also affect traffic flow and reaction time.
