Callaway Co., MO (April 24, 2026) – Two people were seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash on Wednesday, April 23, on Highway 54 at Route BB in Callaway County. The collision happened in the afternoon and involved a Chevrolet Trailblazer and a Ford Taurus, both traveling eastbound.
At around 3:47 p.m., the Ford Taurus crossed in front of the Chevrolet Trailblazer, causing the two vehicles to collide. Both cars left the roadway and came to rest off the right side.
A 45-year-old man from Fulton, driving the Ford, was seriously hurt. The 26-year-old woman behind the wheel of the Chevy was also seriously injured. Both were taken to University Hospital for treatment.
The incident remains under review by authorities. Our thoughts are with both drivers as they recover.
What Should Drivers Know About Two-Vehicle Crashes on Missouri Highways?
Two-vehicle crashes on Missouri highways often happen when one driver unexpectedly moves into the path of another. On roads like Highway 54, where traffic moves at higher speeds, even a brief lane deviation can lead to a serious collision. The combination of speed and limited reaction time makes these crashes particularly dangerous.
Serious injuries in these situations frequently involve trauma to the head, chest, or limbs, and may require care at a hospital equipped for higher-level treatment. University Hospital in Columbia serves as a regional trauma center for much of mid-Missouri, meaning patients from surrounding counties like Callaway are often directed there after serious crashes. Access to that level of care can make a real difference in recovery outcomes.
