Why Falls Near Roadways Can Increase the Risk of Pedestrian Accidents
Pedestrian accidents sometimes occur when someone unexpectedly loses balance near an active roadway. A fall can place a person directly in the path of traffic, leaving drivers with little time to react, especially if visibility is limited.
Roadside conditions can also affect how safely people move along the edge of a street. Uneven pavement, narrow shoulders, or obstacles may increase the risk of tripping or slipping while walking.
Driver awareness is another factor in pedestrian safety. People who fall or stumble near traffic may not be immediately visible from inside a moving vehicle. This can make it difficult for drivers to stop quickly enough, particularly in areas without marked pedestrian paths or sidewalks.
