Why Crashes Often Occur at Highway Business Route Intersections
Intersections involving business routes and connecting roads can see a mix of local and through traffic. Drivers may enter these crossings from different directions while traveling at varying speeds.
Vehicles moving along a main route may have the right of way, while others attempt to cross or turn onto the roadway. If timing or visibility is misjudged, the result can be a severe collision.
Investigators reviewing crashes at intersections often look at vehicle paths, roadway markings, and the placement of traffic signs. Damage patterns and the final positions of the vehicles can also help show how the crash developed.
