Miami Beach, FL (March 8, 2026) – On Saturday, March 7, a multi-vehicle crash shut down part of Biscayne Boulevard after several cars collided near Northeast 169th Street in North Miami Beach. Emergency units responded to the scene and found five vehicles involved in the accident along the busy roadway.
The crash led to the closure of Biscayne Boulevard in both directions between NE 163rd Street and NE 172nd Street. Traffic was diverted away from the area while crews worked at the scene and cleared the damaged vehicles.
Six people were checked for injuries at the location, and three of them required additional treatment and were taken to a nearby hospital, according to officials at the scene.
Drivers in the area experienced delays while the road remained closed and traffic was redirected through nearby streets. Officials have not yet released details about how the crash occurred or what may have caused the chain-reaction collision.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as they become available.
Our thoughts are with those injured as they receive medical care.
Is Biscayne Boulevard a Dangerous Road?
Biscayne Boulevard, part of U.S. Route 1, is one of the main north–south corridors running through Miami and nearby communities. Because it carries heavy daily traffic and connects residential neighborhoods, shopping areas, and major highways, the road experiences a steady flow of vehicles and pedestrians.
Several intersections along the corridor are known for higher crash activity, including areas such as Biscayne Blvd at NE 79th St and the junction with NE 163rd St, where dense traffic, multiple lanes, and frequent turning movements can increase collision risk.
Crash data for the broader Miami area shows how common traffic incidents are on busy urban roads. In 2023, Miami recorded about 63,837 traffic crashes, including 342 fatal crashes and nearly 29,775 crashes that resulted in injuries, according to compiled traffic statistics.
The county also recorded more than 21,000 hit-and-run crashes that year, leading to dozens of deaths and thousands of injuries.
Pedestrian safety is another concern in the region. In 2022, Miami-Dade County reported 1,796 pedestrian crashes, with 94 deaths and 1,375 injuries, reflecting the challenges of dense traffic combined with heavy foot traffic.
These numbers do not mean every section of Biscayne Boulevard is unsafe, but they highlight how busy urban corridors can experience more crashes simply because of traffic volume, complex intersections, and the mix of drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians sharing the roadway.
