Ottawa County, OH (March 22, 2026) – A 78-year-old woman lost her life following a crash along State Route 2 near Port Clinton. The incident took place around 9:40 a.m. on Saturday, March 21.
According to early reports, Margaret Lenthe of Lakeside Marblehead was driving westbound when her vehicle veered off the left side of the roadway. Her car then struck the raised center median, went airborne, and landed in the eastbound lanes.
Once in the opposite lane, the vehicle collided with a pickup truck driven by 56-year-old Raymond Roberts of Hazel Park, Michigan. Emergency units arrived at the scene shortly after the crash was reported.
Lenthe was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities noted that she was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.
Roberts and his passenger suffered minor injuries but did not require transport to a hospital. No additional details about contributing factors have been released at this time.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available. We extend our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased.
What Happens When a Vehicle Crosses Into Opposing Traffic Lanes?
When a vehicle crosses into oncoming traffic, the risk of a high-impact crash increases significantly. These situations often happen when a driver loses control, leaves their lane, or strikes a fixed object that redirects the vehicle.
Raised medians can sometimes cause vehicles to lift or shift direction abruptly upon impact. When this happens, the vehicle may enter opposing lanes with little warning for other drivers.
Crashes involving opposing traffic tend to result in more severe damage due to the combined speeds of the vehicles. Even at moderate speeds, the force of impact can result in serious injuries.
Road design, visibility, and driver awareness all affect how these events unfold. In many cases, quick reaction time from nearby drivers can help reduce the severity, but sudden lane intrusions leave little time to respond.
