Why Intersection Crashes Often Lead to Serious Injuries
Intersections are common locations for serious crashes because vehicles approach from multiple directions simultaneously. Drivers must watch for traffic signals, stop signs, and other vehicles entering the roadway.
When a driver fails to yield the right of way, vehicles can collide at angles that expose a car’s side to direct impact. These types of crashes are often called side-impact collisions and can lead to severe injuries.
Unlike the front or rear of a vehicle, the sides have less structural protection. This means passengers sitting closest to the impact may experience stronger forces during a crash.
Speed, reaction time, and visibility also influence the severity of an intersection accident. Even at moderate speeds, the force of a collision can cause significant damage and serious injuries.
