Laredo, TX (March 27, 2026) – Four people were injured on Friday, March 27,  after a sedan crashed into a Texas Department of Public Safety vehicle at an intersection in Laredo.

The collision occurred at Los Presidentes Blvd and Isla Mujeres Dr. Emergency units responded to the scene after reports of a sedan rear-ending a DPS vehicle in the area.

A 29-year-old woman who was driving the sedan suffered multiple injuries and was taken to Laredo Medical Center in critical condition. A 6-year-old girl seated in the front passenger seat was also critically injured and taken to the hospital with multiple injuries.

Two other children inside the sedan were also hurt in the crash. A 1-year-old boy seated in the rear suffered minor abrasions and was taken to the hospital in stable condition, while a 6-month-old girl secured in a car seat was also transported in stable condition.

The 33-year-old male DPS officer involved in the crash was not injured and declined medical treatment at the scene.

Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available.

We are thinking of those injured as they receive medical care.

How Rear-End Collisions Can Lead to Serious Injuries

Rear-end crashes occur when one vehicle strikes the back of another vehicle traveling in the same direction or stopped ahead. These collisions are common at intersections and on roads where traffic frequently slows or stops.

Drivers may not always expect sudden braking in front of them, particularly in areas with traffic signals or turning lanes. When a vehicle approaches too quickly or follows too closely, there may be little time to react before impact.

Passengers can experience strong forward and backward motion during a rear-end collision. Seat belts and properly installed child safety seats help reduce the risk of severe harm, especially for young passengers.

Maintaining a safe following distance and paying close attention to traffic flow are two key ways drivers can lower the chances of this type of accident.
