Understanding the Risks of Pedestrian Crashes in Urban Areas
Pedestrian collisions are a significant safety concern in busy urban areas. Crosswalks, traffic signals, and street lighting play a major role in preventing crashes, but pedestrians remain vulnerable when drivers fail to notice them or flee the scene.
Hit-and-run incidents are particularly dangerous, as immediate medical attention may be delayed. Speed, visibility, and reaction time are key factors that influence the severity of injuries in pedestrian crashes. Awareness by both drivers and pedestrians, along with proper roadway infrastructure, can help reduce the risk of serious accidents.
