Speed and Barriers Can Influence Rollover Crashes on Highways
Rollover crashes on highways often involve a mix of speed and sudden impact. When a vehicle is traveling quickly, even a minor collision can lead to loss of control.
Concrete barriers are designed to stop vehicles from leaving the roadway, but hitting one at speed can cause a vehicle to flip. The angle of impact and vehicle type can affect how the rollover occurs.
Traffic flow and lane positioning also play a part. Close spacing between vehicles increases the chance of contact, especially when speeds vary. Once a vehicle overturns, it can create additional hazards for others nearby.
