What Makes Wrong-Way Crashes So Dangerous on Freeways
Wrong-way crashes are among the most dangerous types of roadway incidents because they often involve vehicles traveling directly toward each other. This can lead to high-impact collisions, especially on fast-moving freeways.
These incidents often occur during overnight hours when visibility is lower and traffic patterns are lighter. Drivers may enter ramps incorrectly or become disoriented, increasing the risk of heading into oncoming traffic.
Clear signage, ramp design, and driver awareness can help reduce these events. Staying alert and avoiding impaired driving are also key factors in lowering the chances of wrong-way crashes.
