How Head-on Crashes Affect Vehicle Occupants
Head-on crashes are among the most severe types of collisions because vehicles collide with opposing momentum, producing high forces that can cause serious or fatal injuries. Crossing the center line is a common factor, often occurring due to distraction, misjudgment, or loss of control.
Larger vehicles, such as commercial trucks, may reduce injury risk for their occupants due to size and weight, but passengers in smaller vehicles are especially vulnerable. Seat belts are critical in protecting drivers and passengers, as they help prevent ejection and reduce the force of impact on the body. Even with restraints, the combination of vehicle speed, collision angle, and vehicle size contributes to the severity of injuries in head-on crashes.
