Why Hit-and-Run Cases Often Take Time to Resolve
Hit-and-run investigations can take longer than other roadway cases because identifying the driver is often the first challenge. Early efforts may focus on reviewing nearby surveillance footage, examining debris left behind, and speaking with anyone who may have witnessed what happened. Even small vehicle parts found on the roadway can help narrow down the type of car involved.
In many cases, roadway lighting, weather, and traffic levels can affect how much information is immediately available. Investigators may also review the timing of nearby traffic cameras or business security systems. Medical examiner findings can further help explain how the person was struck and the direction the vehicle may have been traveling. As more evidence becomes available, additional details are often released to the public.
